Frequently Asked Questions
What is an estate sale?
An estate sale is a professionally organized sale of personal property within a home. It is typically held when downsizing, relocating, handling a loved one’s estate, or settling a probate situation.
How does the estate sale process work?
We begin with a free consultation to evaluate the contents of the home and determine if an estate sale is the best option. From there, we:
-
Organize and stage the home
-
Research and price items
-
Market and advertise the sale
-
Conduct the sale
-
Provide accounting and payout
What is the commissions and how soon will I receive the funds.
Our compensation is structured as a 60/40 split — 60% to you and 40% to Parrot Estate Sales & Buy Out. If trash removal or dumpster rental is required, those direct expenses are deducted from the total proceeds before the commission split is calculated. We believe in full transparency and discuss any such costs in advance.
In most case you will receive funds from your estate sale 48 to 72 hours of end of sale.
What items can be sold?
Almost everything can be sold, including:
-
Furniture
-
Jewelry & watches
-
Antiques & collectibles
-
Artwork
-
Coins & currency
-
Tools & garage items
-
Household goods
-
Clothing
Even everyday household items often sell.
What happens if not everything sells?
Options typically include:
-
Donation (with receipt)
-
Buyout offers
-
Clean-out services
Do I need to clean or organize beforehand?
No. In fact, it’s best to leave everything as-is until your estate sale professional evaluates the contents. Even items that may seem insignificant can have value.
How are prices determined?
Items are priced based on:
-
Current market demand
-
Research of comparable sales
-
Condition and rarity
-
Local buying trends
Professional pricing helps maximize return while ensuring items sell.
How much time does an estate sale take from start to finish?
To ensure a successful estate sale, we recommend starting work in the house at least two weeks prior to the sale date. This time-frame allows our team to thoroughly stage and price items effectively. Additionally, we will need at least one week to advertise the estate sale online, which can only begin once the setup is complete.
Are estate sales the same as garage sales?
No. Estate sales are professionally managed, advertised, researched, and staged events designed to liquidate the contents of a home efficiently and profitably.
